To use Jibebuy:

Logging into Jibebuy

Before you use Jibebuy for the first time, you'll need a Jibebuy account. The simplest and fastest way to get a Jibebuy account is to Log in with Facebook (or Twitter, LinkedIn or Google+).

If you don't have a Facebook account or you prefer to keep your Jibebuy account separate, we still have you covered - you can sign up for a new Jibebuy account. Signing up for Jibebuy requires only an email address and takes just 15 seconds.

Tools for Creating Intelligent Bookmarks

It takes only a few minutes to install Jibebuy's browser extension or mobile app. These tools make adding web pages to Jibebuy quick and easy and are highly recommended.

Making a Jibebuy List

Let's say you are starting a search for a new home in San Francisco. If you are like most of us, you'd start by searching on well known sites like Zillow, Trulia and Craigslist. As you find potential choices, you add them to your list. Without Jibebuy, your list might be kept in emails or a spreadsheet. Your list might end up looking like this:

With Jibebuy, you still search for your apartment on Craigslist, Zillow and the local newspaper, but, instead of using emails or spreadsheets, you create and maintain your list in Jibebuy. To create a list like the one above, first log in to Jibebuy.

Add a List

Just like you might start a paper list by turning to a blank page and writing the list's name at the top, you start out in Jibebuy by creating a new list and giving it a name. If you logged into a brand new Jibebuy account, you can click the Add a new List link to create your first list. If you would like to create another list at a later date (say to shop for a new car), you'll find the Add List choice on the Settings menu.

To continue the example above, you could create a new Jibebuy list by choosing Add List from the Settings menu. Jibebuy opens the Add List dialog where you can set the list's Name, Description and other properties. For lists, List Type and Name are the only required properties. We suggest keeping the name short and simple. For the example in the example above, we would use the following:

Add a Choice - Browser Extensions

If you have one of our browser extensions installed, adding a new choice to goes like this: First, click on Suggested Sites and choose of of the suggested sites like Zillow or Craigslist to get started with a new search. (If you don't see the site you want on the the Suggested Sites list, you can add it with Edit Sites....). Now use your web browser normally to find a home you want to add to your list. Once you have the page loaded with the home you like, click the Jibebuy icon or choose the Jibebuy bookmark and add it to your Jibebuy list.

Add a Choice - Mobile Apps

If you have one of our mobile apps installed: Click on Suggested Sites and choose of of the suggested sites like Zillow or Craigslist to get started with a new search. (If you don't see the site you want on the the Suggested Sites list, you can add it with Edit Sites....). Now use the Jibebuy browser to find a home you want to add to your list. Once you have the page loaded with the home you like, click the Jibebuy iconand add it to your Jibebuy list.

Add a Choice - Add a Web Page

To add a Choice to your List, click then select Add Choice to [...]. Jibebuy opens the Add Choice dialog and lets you choose between adding a web page or entering choice data manually. To continue to the example above, let's suppose you located the "829 Folsom St." apartment on Craigslist. In the Add Choice dialog, make sure the Add a Web Page is selected. Copy and paste the URL of the apartment's Craigslist page into the Page URL field, then click Load Page.

Jibebuy automatically fills out fields and adds photos based on the contents of the page being bookmarked. You can change the content of the automatically filled out fields. To remove or reorder photos, hover over or click a photo and use the provided tools.

Add a Choice - Enter Manually

To continue the above example, let's suppose you found "673 Brannan St." in the local paper. You can add a choice that doesn't come from the web by clicking Add Choice. Use the Enter Manually tab on the Add Choice dialog to fill out the fields and add photos for your new Choice. As with list names, we suggest keeping choice names short and simple.

Getting Organized

Jibebuy offers several tools to help you get organized.

Adding Photos

You may want to add photos to choices that are not from the web. For example, if you see a home or car in person, you can take your own photos and add them to the choice in Jibebuy. To add photos to a choice, locate the choice and click its Edit link. At the bottom of Edit Choice dialog, click Add/Drop Photos. On most devices, you can select multiple photos at once. To remove or reorder photos, hover over or click a photo and use the provided tools.

Hashtags

It is rare that sites like Zillow or Craigslist have checkboxes for all your interests. To deal with this, you typically have to look at the listing's description and photos or even call the agent or owner to find out if the apartment will accept small cats or the house has a place for a home office. You can use hashtags to help you keep track of this research.

Hashtags allow you to organize your list choices into groups. To assign hashtags to a choice, put the hashtags in the choice's description. For example, if you wanted to be able to group by number of bedrooms, you could add hashtags like #catsm #homeoffice, #2bedrooms, #3bedrooms, etc. to your choice descriptions. You can also put hashtags into the list description so other users can easily see and use your list's hashtags.

Calendar View

Often, there is an event, such as a showing appointment or an open house, associated with a choice. Jibebuy lets you enter the event's date and time, create reminders and see a master calendar for all your lists's events. To enter an event for a choice, click on the choice's Edit Choice link, then click the Calendar tab.

Map View

The Map view shows all the choices that have an address on a map. If a choice seems to be missing from the map, double-check its address. Note that the Distance seen in other views is the distance between the list's address and the choice's address.

Table View

The table view gives you a quick overview of all your choices.

Customizing Fields

To customize fields for a list and its choices, click the list's Edit List link. In the Edit List dialog you will find the following settings related to field customization:

Choice Custom Fields

A choice has both standard fields (fields defined by Jibebuy) and custom fields. Use Choice Custom Fields, to define a comma separated list of up to 10 custom fields for your choices. When you change the list's type, Jibebuy will add typical custom fields for the list type you selected.

Choice Standard Fields

This setting, presented as a comma separated list of field names, lets you select which standard fields are displayed for your list's choices.

This setting, presented as a comma separated list of field names, lets you select which standard fields are displayed for your list.

Resetting Customized Fields

If you customize your fields, then later decide that you would like to restore them to default values, the simplest way to proceed is to create a new list of the same type, then copy the default field definiations from the new list to your existing list.

Share Your List

To share a list with your friends, click Share List. Use the checkboxes to control what type of access your friends will have. You can share on Facebook or email via the relevant buttons. To share on IM or other Social Networks, click Share anywhere with URL and copy and paste the provided URL.

When your friends visit your Jibebuy list by clicking the share URL, if they already have a Jibebuy account, your list will be added to their account. If they do not have a Jibebuy account (or they are not logged into Jibebuy), they can see a limited version of your list without logging into Jibebuy. In order to vote, comment or contribute, your friends will need to log in to Jibebuy (creating an account if necessary).

Lists shared Permanently are always available at a URL that is based on your Jibebuy display name and the list's name. If you change your display name (typically, by entering a first name in your Profile Settings) or the list's name, the share URL will change. Otherwise, for permanent shares, the share URL is always the same.

For Temporary shares, each time you click Share List, a new share URL is generated for the list. The share URL automatically expires after 48 hours, but you can share the list again.

Vote, Comment and Contribute

To vote for a choice, click the choice's Jibe link (Jibe means to agree!).

To comment, enter your comment into the Write a comment... box and click Post.

If you are the list's owner or have been given permissions to Add Photos or Add Choices and change any List content, you can contribute to the list with the usual tools describe above.

Jibebuy keeps track of all changes and automatically sends out update status notifications to users with list access.
